Enrolling in Devine
Digital Design & Development (Devine) is a full three-year bachelor's degree at KASK & Conservatorium, the school of arts of HOGENT and Howest. I had visited two different schools, but the moment I arrived at Devine, I knew instantly: this was where I wanted to study!
Big Set of Skills
A major advantage of Devine is that you develop a broad skillset. You learn to build a digital project from start to finish: starting with research techniques, moving on to design, and ultimately, development. These are the three pillars of Devine:
Experience Design
Visual Design
Development
This ensures that no matter where your primary interest lies, you immediately gain knowledge of the other disciplines. This makes collaboration incredibly interesting, as you understand the expertise of your peers. It is a highly attractive quality for companies.
First and Second Year
In the first and second year, you take a combined package of all these subjects. You have to pass every single class, even if you have already found your specific expertise or passion. It is crucial to pour your creative mindset into every assignment.
Last Year
For those who have already found their niche, the third year is where it gets really exciting. I chose the Visual Design track, which introduced me to the world of 3D using Blender. I had always thought that Motion Design was my main interest, until I got that introduction to 3D. I was hooked instantly.
3D & Motion Design
After all those years of brainstorming, designing, and coding, I finally found my true passions: 3D & Motion Design. And by choosing Devine, I also gained a solid understanding of all the other disciplines!
Get a taste of Everything
My advice is to truly taste a bit of everything. This is your best opportunity to discover what you are genuinely passionate about! Never think that the things you learn but don't ultimately specialize in are a waste of time. That knowledge always comes in handy and is a massive asset to both yourself and the professional world.
